If you have ever watched the popular television series "The Deadliest Catch" you know the perils that are faced by king crab fishermen each year as they attempt to catch, and bring to market, some of the most delectable seafood available.

With only a short fishing season, and facing violent storms in the waters off of Alaska , it is easy to understand that this delicious meat comes with a higher price tag than many other types of seafood. For those that love crab legs though, it is worth every penny. And while the Alaskan waters make for dangerous fishing grounds, it also produces some of the sweetest, most flavorful crab meat in the world.

Usually when you buy crab legs you are getting just that, the legs. They have been separated from the body, so you are not paying for anything except the part you really wanted. Crab legs typically come frozen, and are almost always precooked, so preparing them at home is an easy task. You just need to heat it to the desired temperature, and serve. You do want to be careful not to overcook the crab legs, because this will cause the meat to begin to break down, and you will lose the firm texture that you want.

The meat from the crab legs can also be used in other dishes as well. Because you do not want to overcook the meat, it is usually better to not add the crab meat until the very end of the cooking time.

The hardest part of eating crab legs is getting to the meat, but for some people that battle is half of the fun. Crab legs come in 3 sections. Separate each of the sections by breaking them apart at the joint. You then have to crack the shell to remove the meat.

The most popular way to prepare and serve crab legs is to boil the legs, then serve them with warm drawn butter, lemon wedges, some shell crackers, and plenty of napkins. It is a simple dish, but one that all crab lovers would enjoy.

Not only are crab legs delicious, but they are healthy, too. The meat is low in fat, and it is also high in Omega-3 fatty acids. These are an important essential oil that helps prevent cancer.

Alaskan king crab legs are a taste treat that are not only good to eat, they are good for you. Thrill your family with a meal featuring this as an entre, and you will be the star of the dinner table.
